Tornado

At ten PM last night, I was playong on the computer, making Erik pasta, all was calm.

10:05 - out of nowhere comes 'heap big wind'. Seriously. I heard branches from the neighbors tree hit our house. I turn on the TV to the Weather Channel, wondering if the Thunderstorm warning from a little while ago was anything major now. It is. A tornado warning, specific to my TOWN. Not my county, my town. wow, first time that's happened.

10:07 - power goes out. Erik looks at me and says "My pasta wasn't done, was it?" (electric stove) We laugh and grab flashlights and candles.

10:08 - First candle is lit. I finish up Erik's pasta (which was pretty much done), and he sits down to eat.

10:09 - Tornado siren starts blaring. Crap. Denver hates tornados, is terrified that we are going to get swept away in one. This is going to be fun.

10:10 - gather up Molly. Wake Denver up (not easy), and head into Denvers' bathtub to wait out the storm. Siren still blaring.

10:11 - Denver wakes up enough to figure out why we're in the tub. Great, he's been crying all day, isnt' this the topper? He stays pretty calm, though, but he's clearly scared.

10:12 - Wait. Siren isn't turned off yet, but will be in the next minute. Storm is still pretty fierce.

10:30 - Storm finally subsides enough and we all climb out of the bathroom and put the kids back to bed. I spend the rest of the night calming Denver's fears and dealing with a fussy Molly (We're the ones that started teh trend of waking her up...intentional or not).

This morning - debris everywhere, mostly branches, though. Still not sure where the tornado was spotted. Don't think it was here, in the center of town, though. Only heard a few sirens last night...and the power actually was returned about 3AM.

Glad it missed you... not fun at all to be caught in such. And hopefully the high winds in your area didn't do too much damage to your place...
